Grandmother Spider: Our Logo

Thorncraft began as a dare and a dream between Shana Thornton and her husband, Terry Morris whose answer to Shana's question, "Do you think I should do this?" was the more important question, "Why haven't you started it already?" A reaction to talk and queries--making books was and is action, forward momentum, and learning along the way.

The Quick Version

We are storytellers, and our main focus at Thorncraft Publishing is to craft and deliver stories that cause us to deeply consider the human impact on our world and within our cultures and families. Thorncraft Publishing is a nationally recognized independent publisher with national and international distribution through all major book distributors and our online store. Based in Clarksville, Tennessee, our books are sold locally at Parnassus Books in Nashville, Customs House Museum, Vanderbilt University bookstore, and more in the middle Tennessee region. All libraries and schools can order our books with an education discount through all major book distributors. Thorncraft Publishing honors books written by women as our first commitment, and we publish selected work by men in our series books. Our Story

We are celebrating five years in 2017, and more than six books into a publishing journey and hope that it will continue to grow beyond our present surroundings into even more new opportunities. The company has become "we"--a team of people who work diligently to create meaningful books. We invite you to explore the website by watching the slideshows and reading the individual book pages to learn more about the Thorncraft team and what we create.

The novel, Multiple Exposure (August 2012) by Shana Thornton, was Thorncraft's publishing debut. Followed by Beverly Fisher's novella, Grace Among the Leavings (August 2013), Melissa Corliss DeLorenzo's The Mosquito Hours (April 2014), Shana Thornton's Poke Sallet Queen and the Family Medicine Wheel (March 2015), and Melissa Corliss DeLorenzo's Talking Underwater (August 2015), Thorncraft strives to publish authentic voices that cause us to deeply consider the human impact on our world and within our families and cultures.

Seasons of Balance: On Creativity and Mindfulness (March 2016) by S. Teague and Shana Thornton is Thorncraft's debut in nonfiction and emphasizes creativity in meditation, fitness, gratitude, and all the seasons of life.

BreatheYourOMBalance: Writings about Yoga by Women (October 2016) is the first volume in a series of  collaborative books about yoga practices. Selected and introduced by S. Teague, Volume One of BreatheYourOMBalance features poetry, nonfiction, and fiction from 30 contributors. For our second volume of BreatheYourOMBalance: Yoga and Healing (Forthcoming 2018), we have worked with Yoga Mat studio through writing workshops and a collaborative mindfulness endeavor to bring you a new book in the series.

In 2018, we'll also be introducing the work of a new fiction author, Nikki Martin, and we are excited to publish the first novel in her fictional series, Awake While Dreaming (Forthcoming 2018).

We hope that you read and respond to the stories available through Thorncraft. Our joy would be to bring you more books in the future.

The writing spider is known as grandmother spider, weaver of stories, in many Native American cultures. We are inspired by the stories of those who came before us, by the words of our grandmothers as we sat at their feet and at their tables. We honor the storytellers in our families and lives.

Thorncraft books are available in trade paperback, ebook versions, and in some cases audiobooks.
